ChildD is an acronym for Christian Help in Learning Disabilities and Differences. Joyce Inouye (founder) shares that the Lord had given her the name "ChildD" when she was involved with others called to start special need ministries in local Christian schools. It wasn't until 2012, when God called her to Japan, that God unfolded more of how He wanted the ChildD Ministry to serve Him. This is her story in His amazing story. Blessed be the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The founder had a distinct call to begin a special need program in 1996 at the Christian elementary school where her three children attended. This call began as God showed her a child taking a Bible verse test. As she observed him, she saw the anguish he was experiencing. She recognized the lack of a pincer grasp, the angle he would turn his paper, and how he wiped his tears attempting to hide them from his classmates. She noticed he was mouthing the Bible verse. She could see this child had a process disorder when it came to putting his thoughts on paper. She asked the teacher if he could just recite it. The teacher agreed and mentioned he didn't do well on these Bible verse tests. The teacher later told her that this boy recited the verse without any hesitation. She said, "He was a completely different student!"

This is when God led her to birth a special ministry in the Christian school her three children attended. Once approved by the school board, the Lord told her she would work part-time for three years. In those three years, she saw the need for prayer support and community, and this led her to seek Christian schools with special need programs in California. She then founded the "Special Needs Institute" with a dear sister who also led programs in her Christian school. She was given a website as a gift that was maintained and updated by a group of retirees. They partnered and believed in helping children with learning challenges be encouraged and informed. The Lord gave her the name, "The ChildD Ministry." Joyce also began her private practice, and began working and training with medical professionals in partnership for clients.

In March 2011, Japan had its triple disaster. Because her son was assigned to missions in 2012, she discovered as she prayed for Japan that there was less that 1% in Japan who were Christian. She also learned that those in Japan with learning disabilities had few resources. As she prayed for her son, he shared a video he made that had information on the suicides in Japan. She was heavily burdened. She couldn't stop thinking about 30,000 committing suicide for the 14th consecutive year.

A few days later, she was awoken very early in the morning as God illumined her heart. She sensed the Lord saying, "Many of those who committed suicide had undetected learning disabilities." From this illumination, within one week, as she was speaking at the Church Home Educators Association (CHEA) annual convention, she divinely met the president, Hiro Inaba, of CHEA-Japan. One month later, Hiro Inaba, invited her to be a keynote speaker at the CHEA-Japan convention in 2012, in the Nagano prefecture, in Hakuba, Japan. The rest is ... "His story."

We know that God's magnificent story is also your story with you as the main character. Do you hear Him? In Philippians 1:6 it states, "And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you will continue His work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns" (NLT). May our "story" in His story, speak into the ministry God has given you.

The ChildD Board 2013-2022

We continue to God for where He leads us.

We thank the Lord for the gift of His ministry through The ChildD Ministry.  With God, we have learned how He brings others to build the community He has for this ministry.  It has been our privilege and blessing to serve in the following churches, international schools and alongside these associations.  Truly, it is far beyond anything we could fathom (Ephesians 3:20).  We thank the many opportunities God has given us in Japan and locally. We are so blessed to serve the Lord together with you.  We thank God for the abundant way He guides our paths and faithfully provides.
